My Paintings Now

I start to paint quickly in response to what I see and I love working with colour. The process usually starts outdoors. I try to record something that has moved me. Sometimes it works.

My method of choice out and about is drawing and watercolour. I then look at the results and make further oil, acrylic or watercolour work in my studio at home. Oil paint is more intense you can think about it and make changes so its very different to watercolour. I love using both.

Looking at past artistic adventures has made me realise what I’ve been drawn to over the years. I feel atmosphere and try to capture it in some way. It can be a calm grey middle England day or stormy sea, lots of trees and often water.

At Stonehenge (see Stonehenge section) painting alone, I believe I felt something in the air I can’t put into words. The paintings catch it better than words I think.

Recently I moved my studio home. I live in a beautiful area called the Charnwood Forest it gives me plenty of inspiration.

Added to that I like to travel and I have my sketches, photos and watercolours to inspire me when I get home. Our landscape is so precious I am so lucky to be able to try to capture it in some way.
