My Paintings Now

Generally for my inspiration I start outdoors with a sketch or a watercolour painting. I love working with colour. I try to record something that catches my eye. I can get quite lost in this enjoyable process.

I then look at the results and make further oil, acrylic or watercolour work in my studio at home. I’m using acrylic paint more lately mostly for drying speed and the fact Im not breathing spirit. But oil paint is more intense you can think about it and make changes so I use both.

Looking at past artistic adventures has made me realise what I’ve been drawn to over the years. I love trying to caputre atmosphere in some way. It can be a calm grey middle England day or a stormy sea or lots of sun through trees.

At Stonehenge (see Stonehenge section) painting alone amongst the stones was a moving experience. Sometimes literally as it was February and windy! An amazing experience that I will always be grateful for. I believe I felt something in the air I can’t put into words.

I live in a beautiful area called the Charnwood Forest it gives me lots of inspiration. Added to this I always come home from travels with a sketchbook of ideas.

The landscape is so precious I am lucky to be able to try to capture it in some way.
