Part of my artistic journey has been woking with other artists on various pieces of “Public Art”. Click to learn more about the projects.
Bench for Nursery Grove
A Bench for Nursery Grove, Barrow Upon Soar
Peter Leadbeater is a wood carver well known in the Charnwood area and has a working base at Beacon Hill Country Park near Woodhouse Eaves. I approached him to work with me on this project and we went on to enjoy working together on several occasions.
Peter uses oak that has had to be felled. I don’t like it that big oak trees are felled but disease and safety factors mean it happens. Then I think its a good idea to use it on something of benefit to communities. Nursery Grove is close to the River Soar a tributary of the River Trent. I incorporated the feeling of water in the design and Peter set to carving it giving it his own input.
Peacock Place Wigston Magna
Totem for Peacock Place Wigston
The site of the Peacock Place development had been used for many things in the past and the brief was to refer back with the design. Two things stood out an electrical factory and a site for framework knitting. I looked into both and decided on the electrical story. My idea was to place a totem with electrical references in wood with metal that would catch the light and shine at different times of the day. It was installed in 2018.
Two Bridges Art Wall
Anstey Latimer workshop and Two Bridges Art Wall for Bradgate Vale.
The first project was at Bradgate Vale, Anstey. The brief was to co- ordinate with the local community. I worked with a Haiku Poet called Paul Conneally and photographer Jenny Jelley.
Step 1 was a very enjoyable day at Anstey Latimer Primary School where Paul led a Haiku workshop with the children. I was backup and Jenny documented the day. It was National Poetry Day so very appropriate. We then incorporated the children’s Haiku poems into worded shapes representing water flowing between the two ancient bridges of Anstey. King Williams Bridge and Packhorse Bridge.
Many thanks also go to Andrew Langley of Art Fabrications for the metal work.
